5 tiny black bugs you'll see in the kitchen
Each of these gets reported to us almost daily. The bug, the spot, and the food source tell you which one you have.
- Small black ants — walking in a steady line, after sweets or water.
- Fruit flies — small hovering flies near ripe or rotting fruit.
- Drain flies — fuzzy moth-like flies near sinks or floor drains.
- Weevils — small dark snouted beetles in flour, rice, or grains.
- Carpet beetles — round mottled body, often near windows or on the floor.
Stop them in three steps
Clean and remove the food or water source first — sprays alone rarely solve it.
- Take out the trash. Wipe counters with vinegar water.
- Seal grain and flour in glass or hard plastic.
- Run hot water and a small drain brush through the sink monthly.
- Vacuum baseboards and the toe-kick under cabinets.
